3 Tips to Prepare for your Engagement Session

So you finally met the person of your dreams, one of you asked a certain question, you have set a date and now the fun part, letting EVERYONE know! Getting your engagement photos plays a crucial role in save that dates and announcements and we get emails all the time asking the same question; “Do you have any advice on our upcoming engagement session?”
We have compiled 3 tips for what we believe are the elements to create amazing and beautiful photographs that will not only look great in your save the dates, but will be real and authentic just like the love that brought you two together.
Outfits
The first question we always get is “What should we wear for our session?”. Depending on you and you fiancé, you might want to bring a couple of outfits. We suggest one fancy and one casual.
We want you to think about how you look next to one another. Do you outfits compliment each other? Try not to wear clashing colors , but keep in mind we don’t want you to match either! Try to steer clear of super bright colors, or loud patterns. Don’t be afraid to get dressed up either!
When it comes to things like footwear, ladies typically opt for heels, booties, flats or boots. Guys, dress shoes, boots, or a plain pair of sneakers like Nike Air Force 1’s or vans. We want your shoes to accent and compliment the outfits you choose, so feel free to bring a few pairs if you aren’t sure whats best. Ladies, we know you want to wear the heels and we want you to! But we all know how much they suck and we want to make sure you have something comfortable to slip into while we are walking!
Motorcycle? Love going snowboarding on the weekend? If you have any props or items that bring out your personalities always bring them along. They make for great add in items for photos and could always lead us to an adventure!
Location. Is Everything.
Is there somewhere that means a lot to both of you? Do you love skiing? The Red Sox? Mountain Climbing? We want to capture you there. We want you to take us to where you met. We want to see the place where you fell in love! Take us to the places that take your breath away. The whole reason you hired us was to capture YOUR moments. We want to make sure that your engagement photos are in a place that means the most to you.
We understand that sometime there isn’t a specific place that stands out. If you don’t have anywhere special in mind, we always have million places we could recommend! Please remember that a some locations require photo permits and contracts in order to take professional photographs and will require some thoughtful planning to make possible.
Most importantly… Relax
We know, every photographer says that. But we mean it! The engagement session is meant for us to get to know each other, to unwind and have some fun in front of the camera. Don't think of this as a photo shoot, think of it as a date! We want to make engagement session as stress free as possible.
