on the fence about your
engagement session?

I can understand being camera shy, or maybe not wanting an engagement session at all. The truth is, we always recommend having an engagement session with your photographer once you make it official. Here’s why it is so important.

Prewedding Bliss

Once you get your engagement photos, there are endless things you can use them for. First and foremost, the images from your session will be used in all things related to your wedding. Invitations, save-the-date, wedding programs, wedding websites and newspaper announcements (this one will make your mom happy). Images from your session can be used as gifts for friends and family as artwork to hang on their walls, or a small album that they can have on display.

Pro tip: If you do choose to self-publish your engagement images, get permission from your photographer. (The image rights belong to the photographer, and you might even have to compensate them for the usage.)  Depending on how you intend to use the photos, most photographers will let you publish as long as you just ask them and give them credit.

Get to know your photographer

There is no better way to get to know your photographer prewedding than to have an engagement session with them. Building a relationship with your photographer can be the difference between average and amazing wedding experience. Spend about an hour or two getting to know your pro, listening to them, having fun with them, and then get photographed. We will take note of how you two interact with each other, your personalities, and different ways to bring out true emotions that will showcase both of you in your best light. These details will help us capture moments on your wedding day that are individual to you and your partner.

Camera Comfortable

Chances are, neither you or your partner are models for a living. That’s why we tell our couples that its important to get a “test run” before your wedding day. Your engagement session gives you a chance to understand how and why different poses are flattering, different positions and ques your photographer will give you to create magical moments, and will help you get to know your photographer like we talked about.

An engagement in part should feel like a practice session for your big day. You will learn how to relax, and feel at ease with taking direction from your photographer, while getting lost in timeless moments with your partner that will all be captured for you to remember these special times.

Reconnecting

In our Blog post 3 Tips to Prepare for your Engagement Session we talk about how choosing a location that is meaningful to you is so important. We find that when you choose a location that is meaningful to the both of you, it allows you to reconnect, and bring you back to where it all began. Picking a special spot will mean that the engagement photos will feel more special - and you will likely feel more at easy in an environment that you are familiar with.
